Chihuly -The Master of glass-blowing

I call the Victoria and Albert Museum my spiritual home. Every time I enter this majestic building (which is very often!) I wander around in fascination and enchantment, and the sight of Chihuly's Chandelier cascading down from the ceiling, never fails to take my breath away.

Dale Chihuly was born in Washington, USA in 1941. After receiving a Master of Science in sculpture, he then earned a Master of Fine Arts degree. He was awarded a scholarship to study at at the illustrious Venini factory in Murano, Venice, Italy.

His works are considered unique to the field of blown glass. His massing of colour, shade and light with the sense of movement, create an overwhelming sight.

The Sun, was unveiled by Chihuly in Berkeley Square, Mayfair, London in 2014. Illuminated at night it was an absolutely exquisite vision, in one of London's most beautiful town squares.

I had the pleasure of greeting him briefly at The Halcyon Gallery, New Bond Street, at the opening of his exhibition; Beyond the Object. He gave a history of his work, the ups, the downs, and his passion for the craft.

He leads the avant grade in the development of glass blowing as a studio art. His work is held in over 200 museums throughout the world.

I feel to so lucky to be able to pop into the V&A , as everyone living in London should do! to see so many extraordinary, magnificent objects, and always greeted first by Chihuly's entrancingly beautiful Rotunda Chandelier.
